2008 PROFILES
Emmanuel
Emmanuel was abandoned at Kangangi Estate in Ruiru. He was rescued by a street boy who reported the matter to the police who, in turn, took him to Thika district hospital. He was around 2 weeks old and weighed 3.6 kgs. Emmanuel was placed at HLCH on 13 October 2005. He is in the baby class.
Fred
Fred was born as his mother was on the way to the hospital on 23 April 2004. As per the records, the mother was from Kimilili, Musenwa location, Bungoma district. The mother was admitted to KNH with the baby and later left him behind in the ward. He was placed at HLCH on 27 may 2004. Fred is now 4 yrs old and in nursery class.
Israel
Israel was abandoned at Dandora estate in Nairobi shortly after birth and later picked up by Maurine Atieno on 7 May 2004. She reported the matter to the police, then took him to a clinic at Dandora which referred him to KNH. He was admitted with severe dehydration and malnourishment and weighed 2.4 kgs. He was brought to HLCH on 19 May 2004. Israel is 4 yrs old and in nursery school.
Jonathan
Jonathan was seen by police officers on 18 April 2008 at a place known as Kenya Kiiru village of Baricho division Kirinyaga district. The police took him to Kerugoya district hospital. He was placed at HLCH on 8 May 2008, but was then taken to the hospital suffering from menengitis which was at its tertiary stage. He is now doing well.
Joshua
Joshua was abandoned by the mother soon after delivery on 10 December 2002 at Kenyatta National Hospital. He was later taken to Nairobi Children’s Home and later transferred to HLCH on 7 Jan 2003. Joshua has been taken in foster care for a year with adoption process to follow. Joshua is now 7 years old and in pre-unit class at Thika Road School.
Kevin
Kevin was found abandoned at the gate of Jackline Nyaata on 9th May 2006 at Kinoo in Nairobi. She reported the case to the police. He was then taken to KNH and diagnosed with severe malnutrition, anemia and rickets. He was about 18 months old and weighed 5.6 kg. He was admitted at HLCH on 11 July 2006. Kevin is in the baby class.
Leah
Leah was admitted at HLCH on 16 January 2007. Her father was 66 years old had stayed with her for 6 months in very poor conditions. Her mother died after delivery. Leah will be given back to her father when he is in a position to take care of her. Leah has a brother (Daniel) and a sister (Mother).
Lena
Lena was abandoned at Githurai Kimbo on 27 May 2005 at about 2 days old. She was suffering malnutrition and admitted at HLCH on the same day. After proper medical attention and care, she grew well and was in nursery class by the time she was identified. She was taken for foster care by her adoptive single mother on 7 August 2008; they live at Taita Taveta District.
Melody/Blessed
Melody was abandoned along Kwihota Ruiru road on 28 June 2008. She was rescued by a stranger who reported the case to the police. She was later taken Thika district hospital. Melody was about one week old and weighed 2.5 kgs. She was admitted at Happy Life Children's Home on 21st July 2008.
Moses
Moses was abandoned in Mathare area in Nairobi on 7 June 2006 outside a house where there was a home fellowship. He was taken in by Jackson & Irene Ocheing, who reported the case to the police, but were allowed to take him home. On 21 June 2006, Moses was taken to KNH and treated for pneumonia. He weighed 4.5 kgs. Mrs. Ochieng was unable to continue staying with Mloses in the ward and Moses was later placed at HLCH on 10 August 2006.
Patricia
Patricia was abandoned at approximately eight months by an out-patient mother in the pediatric ward at Thika district hospital on 5 January 2007. Her mother left a note with the baby indicating that she was an orphan. Patricia was taken for fostering on 16 April 2008 and is now known as Ruth.
Peace
Peace was found near a river in Matuu on 8 November 2006. She was taken by a good samaritan lady to Matuu police station. She was later taken to Thika District hospital and weighed 1.93 kgs. Her umbilical cord was septic. She was received at HLCH on 28 December 2006. She has retarded growth due to micro cephalous.
Praise
Praise was abandoned at Githurai Kimbo in a sewage trench on 18 April 2006. The case was reported to the police who took her to St. John’s Hospital. She weighed 2.36 kgs. She was admitted to HLCH on 3 May 2006. Praise was taken for foster care pending adoption on 27 June 2008 by a single lady. Praise's new name is Tana Claire.
Pretty/Irene
Pretty was born prematurely at Thika District Hospital with the very low birth weight of 1.4 kg. She was admitted to the nursery and placed in an incubator. She was abandoned on 23 May 2008. Her mother did not leave any contacts in the hospital records. Pretty was admitted to HLCH on 21 July 2008.
Rehema
Rehema was abandoned at Witeithie on 11 December 2006 at about two months old. She was taken to Thika Police station, who took her to Thika district hospital where she was treated for fever and sickness. She weighed 4 kgs. Rehema was placed at Happy Life Children's Home on 28 December 2006. She has been identified and taken for foster care by a mother who had earlier adopted a girl (Beth) from HLCH .
Samson
Samson was left in the house by his mother for a week without food. The good samaritan who rescued him later reported the case to Kasarani Police station. He appeared very weak, frail, and malnourished. Samson was admitted at HLCH on 19 July 2007. His mother was arrested and charged in court, but didn't follow up with him afterward.
Samuel Muhia
Samuel was abandoned by his mother (an orphan herself) who left him with her sister on 27 September 2007. The sister could not take care of him for a long time since she was a small girl in Githunguri primary school in Ruiru, thus affecting her education. He was admitted at HLCH on 2 October 2007.
