Aaron
Aaron was found abandoned on the 21 March 2010 at Waki bus station in Ruiru, along Thika/Nairobi highway. An unknown lady carrying a baby requested three other ladies who were waiting for a bus to help her hold the baby as she went to the bathroom. They waited for her for a long time, she never came back. They reported the issue to the Ruiru Police Station and Aaron was taken to the Ruiru Sub-District Hospital. He was estimated to be 4 days old. He was later brought to HLCH on 23 March 2010.
Aiden
Aiden was born in a hotel in Nairobi and taken to Kenyatta Hospital because of respiratory distress. He was accompanied to the hospital by a hotel attendant who declined to give the name of the hotel and a man who was believed to be the Aiden’s father (although he later denied to be the child’s biological father and said that he was just boyfriend for a short time and that he did not know the whereabouts of the mother). Aiden was admitted at HLCH on 3 December 2010.
Andrew
Andrew is approximately 2½ years old. He was found in one of the slums in Nairobi on 8 April 2009. He was taken to Nairobi Children’s Home and has been appearing for press sessions at the court, but to no avail. He was admitted to HLCH on 10 November 2009. Shortly after, Andrew displayed signs of epilepsy and has been on medication for a short time now while his progress is observed. He has joined HLCH pre-school and, though he has a problem concentrating, he has made great improvement.
Angel
Angel was taken to Kasarani Police Station by three girls 19 July 2010. They said that she had been abandoned two days earlier and that they could not find mother. Angel was about 10 months old. On admission to HLCH, she was very withdrawn, although she looked healthy. She is now a very cheerful little girl.
Chris
Chris was abandoned on 12 March 2009 at Makongeni estate in Thika. He was picked by a good samaritan who took him to Thika District Hospital. He weighed 2.5 kgs. He was admitted to HLCH on 12 May 2009. Chris has been suffering with an umbilical hernia and difficulty in retaining food. The doctor has been examining him frequently and he has significantly improved, though still very small for his age. Chris is now a very healthy boy and has started to walk and talk. He loves music and dancing.
David
David was born at KNH on 24 January 2005. After delivery he was placed at the new born unit as his mother was not in a position to care for him. The social worker at HLCH later tried unsuccessfully to follow up on the whereabouts of his mother. David is 6 years old and has graduated to class one at Mt. View School.
Dennis
Dennis is approximately 3½ years old and was found in Nairobi all alone on 25 July 2009. He was taken to Nairobi Children’s Home and has been appearing for press sessions at the court, but nobody has yet claimed him. He was admitted to HLCH on 10 November 2009. Dennis will be joining pre-unit this January at Ruaraka Academy.
Edwin
Edwin was left in an Eldoret express bus at Machakos country bus terminus. He was taken to Kamukunji Police Station that referred him to Nairobi Children’s Home. Nairobi Children’s Home is a rescue center (children cannot stay there for more than six months) and Edwin was transferred to HLCH on 2 August 2010.
Esther
Esther was abandoned in a ditch at Muthurwa Estate in Nairobi on 12 March 2010 when she was about 1 month old. A stranger named Rosemary reported the case to the Muthurwa Police Station. She was referred to Nairobi Children’s Home and later transferred to HLCH on 2 August 2010. She was one of the babies who was involved in a road accident on 2 August and had a fracture one of the legs, but has recovered. She has had some other health issues (pneumonia and congested chest) since but she is doing well now.
Fred
Fred was born on 23 April 2004 as his mother, from Kimilili, Musenwa location, Bungoma District, was on the way to the hospital. His mother was admitted to KNH with the baby and later left him behind in the ward. He was placed at HLCH on 27 May 2004. Fred is 6½ years old attending Mt. View School and has graduated to class one.
Hekima
Hekima was born and at Kiambu District Hospital on 17 October 2010. He was left at the maternity ward on 18th October the next day at around 2.30 p.m. by his mother, Joyce (age 30). The police have not been able to trace her or the relatives and so they referred Hekima to HLCH on 28 October 2010.
Jacob
Jacob was found abandoned at Park Road on 1 June 2010 outside the gate of a person who said that Jacob's mother had claimed that she wanted to collect a bag at the nearby bus station and later failed return. The case was reported to Pangani Police Station and then referred to Nairobi Children’s Home. Jacob was transferred to HLCH on 2 August 2010, when he was about 1 year old. He was one of the babies who was involved in a road accident on 2 August and had a fracture in his right leg, but has recovered well.
Jeff
Jeff was found abandoned at Githurai 44 on 21 April 2010. He was rescued by a stranger who reported the matter to Kasarani Police Station and was brought to HLCH on the same day. On admission he looked traumatized, dehydrated, had a very high fever and diarrhea. He was rushed to the hospital and was diagnosed of malaria, dehydration and malnutrition. Jeff is now standing and has improved tremendously.
John
John was abandoned on 19 January 2010 at Marurui Village (about 3 kms from Happy Life Children's Home) when he was about 1 year old. He was helped by a stranger who reported the case to the area chief, then to the police. On admission to HLCH (21 January 2010), he looked malnourished, but is now a happy, healthy boy.
Jonathan
Jonathan was seen by police officers on 18 April 2008 at a place known as Kenya Kiiru village of Baricho division Kirinyaga district. The police took him to Kerugoya district hospital. He was placed at HLCH on 8 May 2008, but was taken to the hospital two weeks later suffering from menengitis which was at its tertiary stage. Now, Jonathan is doing well and has started to talk.
Joshua
Joshua is approximately 3½ years old. He was found in Nairobi all alone on 23 January 2008. He was taken to Nairobi Children’s Home and has been appearing for press sessions at the court, but remains unclaimed. He was admitted to HLCH on 10 November 2009. Joshua has really improved (even in his class work) and we are believing God to get a school for him next year.
Juni
Juni was abandoned by his mother at Thika District Hospital new born unit on 20 March, 2010. Details of his mother could not be traced as the baby did not have any labels or documentations. The umbilical cord was tied with strings indicating a possible home delivery. Juni was admitted at HLCH, on 31 March 2010.
Kevin
Kevin was found abandoned at the gate of Jackline Nyaata on 9th May 2006 (at Kinoo in Nairobi) who reported the case to the police. He was then taken to KNH and diagnosed with severe malnutrition, anemia and rickets. He was about 18 months old and weighed 5.6 kg. He was admitted at HLCH on 11 July 2006. Kevin is 5½ years at and had graduated to class one at Mt. View School.
Larry
Larry was abandoned on 9 May 2010 outside the gate at Kasarani. He was rescued by a stanger who reported the case to Kasarani Police Station. There was a small bag beside him with some clothes and the birth notification which showed that he had been born at Ruiru Sub-district Hospital on 26 April 2010. Larry is doing is healthy and doing well.
Leah
Leah was admitted at HLCH on 16 January 2007. Her father was 66 years old had stayed with her for 6 months in very poor conditions. Her mother died after delivery. Leah will be given back to her father when he is in a position to take care of her. Leah has a brother (Daniel) and a sister (Mother).
Leo
Leo was abandoned by his mother at Thika District Hospital on 14 February 2010 shortly after birth. The matter was reported to the police, though they have not succeeded in tracing his mother. Leo was admitted to HLCH on 31 March 2010. He was sick for some time, but he has recovered and doing very well.
Loise
Loise was left by her mother one month after delivery in the care of her father. She was taken to Nairobi Children’s Home. Her father never re-appeared and efforts to trace him are futile. Loise was brought to HLCH on 14 January 2005 from Nairobi Children’s Home. Loise does not have the required documents so that she can be adopted. She is now 6½ years old and has graduated into class one at Mt. View School.
Luc
Luc was born at Kenyatta Hospital on 25 August 2010 and was admitted to the new born unit because of low birth weight of 1500 grams. His mother was admitted to the general ward but absconded on 27 August leaving the baby behind. He was admitted to HLCH on 3 December 2010 and he is doing well in good health.
Nadia
Nadia was found abandoned on 29 August 2010. Her mother, who was a young street girl, left the baby (about one week old) at the area chief’s office and ran away. Efforts to trace her were futile. Nadia was taken to Rescue Dada Children’s Home and then referred to HLCH. Nadia was one of the children who was very sick with rotavirus outbreak, but she has recovered and doing very well.
Nicko
Nicko was abandoned on 27 July 2010 at Roysambu round-about by unknown persons and rescued by officers from Kasarani Police Station. He was one day old and weighed 2.2 kgs. He was admitted to HLCH on the same day. Nicko was one of the children who was very sick with rotavirus outbreak, but has recovered and doing very well.
Nina
Nina was approximately 6 months old when she was abandoned on 8 September 2010. She was found outside Mathare Health Center in a plastic bag around 5:30 am by the hospital subordinate staff. The case was referred to the area Chief, then to Kasarani Police Station, and then to HLCH. Nina is in good health.
Patience
Patience was abandoned at Kerugoya district hospital at the outpatient department on 4 February 2008. She was placed at Happy Life Children's Home on 8 May 2008. Patience could have been adopted already, but we have not gotten the last release letters from the police. We are still following up and hope to get the release letters soon. Petience is now 2 ½ years old.
Pendo
Pendo was found abandoned on 1 November 2010 at Sonic area, Kahawa West near Wonderland Primary School at around 7 p.m. The Good Samaritan reported the case to the area chief and later to Kasarani Police Station. She was then placed at HLCH by the Kasarani District Children’s Office on the same day. She was approximately one week old.
Prince
Prince was abandoned at Thika District Hospital on 26 November 2008. His birth weight was 3.3 kgs. According to the doctor’s report, he had diarrhea which was treated and was also born with non-septic marks on the face which are harmless. He is now in good condition and his face is very smooth without any mark. He is now walking, talking, and loves playing with a ball.
Sifa
Sifa was found abandoned near a stream at Githurai 45 by a woman named Alice. Alice stayed with the baby for several days and later reported the case was at Kia-mumbi Police Station, who referred her to Kasarani Children’s Office. Sifa was about 7 weeks old on admission to HLCH. She is healthy and doing well.
Steve
Steve was found abandoned at a dumping site in Githurai Kimbo on the evening of 24 December 2009. The stranger who found him took him home and then reported the case to the area chief and police station who advised her to stay with the child to see if anyone would claim the child. Steve was brought to Happy Life Children's Home by the Kasarani Children’s’ officer on 8 March 2009. He is doing well
